Venice Pier Group & Beechwood Builders: Save Energy with Solar Field
VENICE, FL—June 23, 2014—Venice Pier Group has joined forces with Beechwood Builders of Venice, FL to develop a solar field using unusable space at the bottom of a retention pond leased for $1 per year from the City of Venice, located in front of the two restaurants: Sharky’s on the Pier and Fins at Sharky’s in Venice, FL. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the solar field is on Thursday, July 17th at 4 p.m. at Sharky’s on the Pier, 1600 Harbor Drive South, Venice, FL.
The 25 KW solar system is made up of 105 – 240 watt panels and is expected to produce $500 in energy savings monthly (based on .11¢ per kilowatt hour). This project received the required approvals from Swift Mud, Division of Beaches & Coastal Management, F.A.A. and the City of Venice; it also qualified for the Florida Power and Light (FPL) rebate program.
“We are hoping the concept of taking the unusable space of a retention pond and building a solar field in it will become customary. The fact that the very first one ever was done here at Sharky’s on the Pier shows a true commitment to the environment and the community,” says Jeff Gates, President of Beechwood Builders, Inc.
“There are two car charging stations as well as power for electric bikes and golf carts free of charge for the public to use in our parking lot. It’s exciting to be partnering with Beechwood Builders on cutting edge, solar energy advances,” says Mike Pachota, President of the Venice Pier Group.
